effects of wheat rhizosphere on phosphorus availability and some biological properties in soils treated with municipal sewage sludge
Authors
abstract
rhizosphere has different chemical and biological properties from the bulk soil. information about phosphorus (p) availability in the rhizosphere soils treated with municipal sewage sludge (mss) is limited. therefore, the objectives of this research were to evaluate the rhizospheric effects of wheat (triticum aestivum l.) on phosphorus availability and biological properties in 10 calcareous soils treated with mss under rhizobox conditions. dissolved organic carbon (doc), microbial biomass carbon (mbc), microbial biomass phosphorus (mbp), metabolic quotient (qco2) and available phosphorus (by 4 chemical extractants including olsen, mehlichі, brayіі and calcium chloride methods with different extraction mechanism), were determined in the rhizosphere and bulk soils. the results showed that doc, mbc and mbp strongly increased and qco2 strongly decreased in the rhizosphere soil compared with the bulk soil. also, the amount of p extracted with different tests in the rhizosphere was lower compared to the bulk soils. the correlation studies showed that dry yield of wheat had positive relationship with mehlichі and olsen-p in the rhizosphere and the bulk soil, respectively. the results of this research showed that mehlichі and olsenextractants could be used to estimate plant-available p in the rhizosphere and bulk soils, respectively.

Field and greenhouse studies were conducted to compare the effectiveness of Blue Plains sewage sludge compost (BLU), Parkway sewage sludge compost (PAR), and triple superphosphate (TSP) as sources of P for corn. These amendments were applied to a Sassafras sandy loam (T> pic Hapludults) in a field study and to the Sassafras soil and a Christiana silty clay loam (Typic Paleudults) in a greenhous...
full textEffect of Composting Process on Some Chemical-Biological Properties and Heavy Metals Behavior of Municipal Sewage Sludge as Affected by Various Bulking Agents
The present study tries to investigate the effect of composting process on some properties and heavy metals status of two municipal sewage sludge (MSS) as affected by three different organic bulking agents (BAs) at three levels (10%, 25%, and 45% V/V). According to the results, the composting process could reduce the fecal coliform to class A, a reduction more obvious in treatments with BAs tha...

The aim of this study was to analyze changes in the content of selected polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in urban soils fertilized with municipal sewage sludge. The factors in the experiment were three lawns along the main roads in Bialystok (in Popieluszki, Hetmanska and Raginisa Strs.), doses of sewage sludge (0 – control; 75 and 150 Mg/ha) and two years of study (2011 and 2012). The s...
